2013 Summer Adventures

Rachel Carson Estuarine Research Reserve – Beaufort, NC

2014 Something Fishy MapMs. Sutton continued her volunteer work as an observer in the Rachel Carson Estuarine Research Reserve this summer. She also assisted some of the local universities with their research projects in the Reserve, monitoring the behaviors of Reserve visitors and horses. Her primary mode of transportation was her stand-up paddle board.


Cape Lookout National Seashore, NC

CLNS WorkshopMs. Sutton participated in an educator workshop close to home this summer. The National Park Service and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum combined their efforts to provide a 3-day workshop at the museum and the Cape Lookout National Seashore, including a visit to Portsmouth Village. Various classroom activities were explored as teachers learned ways to utilize “parks as classrooms.”


Agricultural Biotechnology- Research Triangle Park, NC

Biotech1 BIOTECH

North Carolina’s Biotechnology Center sponsored an educator workshop in  Research Triangle Park to assist teachers in learning more about sustainable agricultural practices to support our growing population. Classroom activities were explored, in addition to their alignment with the new Essential Science Standards for middle grades science.
