Eco-Excursion Variety and Customization:

A variety of Eco-Excursions  are available for your exploration of the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve and areas along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. You may choose to paddle your Kayak or SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboard)*, or you may prefer to travel in my 18′ Flat Bottom Bateau. Each Eco-Tour Package is described below. Customized excursions are also available if you have other adventures in mind.

Bateau Tours

Bateau 2-Hour Waterfront Tour – Includes a guided boat excursion along the Historic Beaufort Waterfront and the shores of the Rachel Carson Reserve. Observe the Carrot Island horses and various shorebirds and marine life along our way. Light snacks and water are provided.

Bateau 3-Hour Rachel Carson Reserve/Waterfront Dining Tour – Add a waterfront dining experience to your guided boat excursion along the Rachel Carson Reserve and the Historic Beaufort Waterfront as you explore the nature and history of this pristine ecosystem. Observe the Carrot Island horses and various shorebirds and marine during your tour.

Bateau 1/2-Day Rachel Carson Reserve Circumnavigation Tour – Includes a guided boat excursion along the Historic Beaufort Waterfront and a circumnavigation of the Rachel Carson Reserve. Observe the diverse habitats and wildlife found throughout each of the four islands within the Reserve. Bring your camera and/or binoculars for close-up views of the Carrot Island horses. A walking tour on the Rachel Carson Reserve is also an option. Light snacks and water are provided.

Kayak/SUP Tours*

Kayak or SUP “Glide with the Tide” Tour – Includes instruction (if needed) and a guided Kayak or SUP excursion along the Historic Beaufort Waterfront and through the Rachel Carson Reserve. Observe wildlife including birds, horses, and marine life. Paddling breaks provide time learn more about the ecosystem, history, and wildlife.

Kayak or SUP 3-hour Rachel Carson Reserve/Waterfront Dining Tour – Includes instruction (if needed) and a guided Kayak or SUP excursion along the Rachel Carson Reserve. Observe wildlife including birds, horses, and marine life. Take a paddling break with a waterfront dining experience along the Historic Beaufort Waterfront.

Kayak or SUP 3-Hour Photography Tour – Includes instruction (if needed) and a guided Kayak or SUP excursion exploring the Rachel Carson Reserve and learning photography techniques from your watercraft. Photograph wildlife including birds, horses, and marine life as we navigate our way around the Reserve.

(*Paddlers provide their own equipment.)

**Optional Overnight Add-on:

Overnight Accommodation in the Beaufort Suite – Add overnight accommodations to your 1/2 or Full-Day Eco-Excursion at Beaufort Suite. ($65/single or $75/couple/night; 2-night minimum) Accommodations include a private suite (1 Double Bed, 1 Full Bath, Microwave, Coffee maker, Refrigerator, Deck, Private entry, and free parking on-site).

Licensed/Certified Instruction and Guidance

Each excursion includes personalized guide service with Miriam Sutton. Miriam is an ACA Certified Paddling Instructor and a Licensed Boat Captain with 20+ years of experience guiding visitors along the Crystal Coast. She is a science educator and is knowledgeable of Beaufort’s Maritime History and the Ecology of the Rachel Carson Estuarine Reserve (where she serves as an Advisory Board Member) and the Cape Lookout National Seashore.
