Yellowstone greeted us today with colorful hot springs, blasting geysers, and vistas beyond the eye’s reach. It is difficult to describe the spectacular features we observed today, but I have developed two primary thoughts that lend credence to one phrase… awe-inspiring. First: What did Native Americans and early explorers think at their first sight of Old Faithful, the Grand Prismatic Spring, and the Geyser Field? How would they explain these awe-inspiring features without the knowledge to understand how they formed? Second: Today, we understand the geothermal forces creating this landscape and the realization of the amount of power and energy beneath our feet continues to instill awe and wonder. If you’re making a “bucket list,” be sure to add Yellowstone.
